Prof. Jean Bernard FLAMENT was appointed Professor of Anatomy of the University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne in 1980. He became chairman of the Surgical Department, Rheims University Hospital in 1988. He is a member of numerous societies, Association Française de Chirurgie, American Association of Clinical Anatomists, British Association of Clinical Anatomists, ACS, Société Internationale de Chirurgie, Colon and Rectal University Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of England (London). A fellow of the ACS, he has served as Secretary, President then Governor of the French Chapter since 1990. His professional career interest has been in the field of abdominal wall surgery and endocrine surgery. He participated, with J.P. Chevrel, in the creation of GREPA which is now the European Hernia Society. He is current President of the EHS, Co-author with J.P. Chevrel, of a monograph on "Incisional Hernia", he has published more than 350 articles. He has been Associate Editor to Ben David text book on "Abdominal wall hernias" and co-editor, with J. Skandalakis, of February 2000 issue of Surgical Clinics of North America dedicated to surgical anatomy.
Prof. Jean Henri Alexandre
Prof. Jean Henri Alexandre is Chairman - Department of General and Digestive Surgery, Consultant Surgeon at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Paris. He has been a member of GREPA since 1976 and is currently member of Board of Governors of the European Hernia Society. He is President of the National Chapter of the Permanent Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Hernia Journal. He has to his credit 546 publications and presentations at various Scientific Congresses. He has performed pioneering research in treatment of giant and incisional hernias.
Prof. Volker Schumpelick
Prof. Volker Schumpelick was appointed Professor of Surgery at University Clinic, Hamburg in 1982. He was conferred Honorary Doctorate of the University of Moscow in 1994. He perfected and promoted the Shouldice technique in Germany in 1980s. he is the Congress President of the next joint Hernia meeting in Berlin in 2009. He is Editor-in-Chief of the hernia Journal, the World Journal of hernia and Abdominal wall Surgery. He has performed pioneering research in development and clinical application of different meshes especially light weight meshes.
Dr. Reinhard Bittner
Dr. Reinhard Bittner is Professor of Surgery at Marienhospital in Stuttgart, Germany. He graduated from Heidelberg medical school in 1968 and did his surgical residency in Berlin and was awarded Professor of Surgery in 1982. In 1990, he became Chairman and Director of Marienhospital. He is a member of many European and International Societies and a past Congress President of the German Hernia Society. He has made over 500 scientific lectures and the author of over 380 publications including original articles and book chapters. He sits on several editorial boards including the journals Hernia, World Journal of Surgery, and Langenbeck's Archive of Surgery.
Dr. G Campenelli
Dr. G Campenelli is Professor of Surgery at the University of Insurbria-Varese and Chief of General Surgery at the Multimedical Hospital in Castellanza, Italy. He graduated from the University of Naples in 1985 and became full professor of surgery in 2006. He is a member of the Italian Society of Surgery and General secretary of the European Hernia Society since 2003. He is also general secretary of the Italian society of ambulatory surgery and Day-surgery, or SICADS. He sits on the editorial board of the journals Hernia and Hepatogastroenterology, and has authoured more than 200 publications.
Dr. Robert J. Fitzgibbons
Dr. Robert J. Fitzgibbons, Jr. MD FACS is the Harry E. Stuckenhoff Professor of Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha Nebraska. He is a past board member of the SAGES and a Past President of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the American Hernia Society. In addition, he is a member of 22 societies including the American Surgical Association. His work has lead to two important randomized prospective multicenter trials dealing with the subject of hernia repair. He has made over 400 national and international presentations on subjects dealing with minimally invasive surgery and hernia repair. He is the author of over 300 scholarly publications including peer and non-peer reviewed articles, books, book chapters, and videotapes and sits on the editorial board of eight journals.
